What is Cork Flooring?

NovaCork flooring is one of the most environmentally friendly materials and it is produced from a renewable resource and has been used as flooring since the 1800's. Cork comes from the bark of the cork tree indigenous to Spain and Portugal. Every eight to ten years the bark if the cork tree is stripped from the trunks (the tree is never felled) and ground into granules that are compressed with special glues at high pressure into sheets. By burning the cork before compression and varying the granule size, creates the different colors and patterns.

Cork flooring provides natural noise insulation because of the over 100 million air cells or pockets per cubic inch of cork. These built in shock and sound absorbers make cork an excellent sound deadening material. Cork flooring is also hypoallergenic; this makes it a wonderful choice for people with allergies or a commercial application. The suberin in cork is a natural insect replant that is not only resistant to many types of insects and termites, but it also resistant to the development of microbes. With cork's thermal efficiency the climate of your floor is consistent and the polyurethane finish makes it easy to maintain.

NovaCork is available in 10 distinctive patterns and 2 finish options to match any décor. With the "klick" system available for floating floor installation, in addition to traditional tongue and grove system, both types of floor systems are comprised of 12" x 36" planks consisting of 3 distinctive layers. The surface layer of 5/64" 100% high density cork, the middle layer of high density fiber core with a base layer of 5/64" low density cork providing excellent acoustic insulation.
Choosing NovaCork is easy because of the natural benefits of the material and the unique beauty it will add to your home.
